Local college hoops roundup: LSUS women clinch share of RRAC crown

The LSUS women’s basketball team clinched at least a share of its second straight Red River Athletic Conference championship Saturday with a  69-point romp.

The Lady Pilots (23-3, 22-1 in the RRAC) blasted visiting Our Lady of the Lake 100-31 as Selma Markisic had 17 points and 5 rebounds, on the heels of her 21-point outing Thursday night at home in a 91-65 blowout of Texas A&M-San Antonio. The Lady Pilots have won 18 in a row.

LSUS hosts LSUA Thursday night at 5:30 to open a doubleheader at The Dock wrapping up the regular season, and could win the title outright if Xavier stumbles in its finale.

LSUS MEN:  The Pilots (17-10, 14-9) topped Our Lady of the Lake 85-77 Saturday as senior guard Davion Coleman scored 22 points and snagged 8 rebounds. That followed a 41-point eruption Thursday by Taj Anderson as the Pilots hammered A&M-San Antonio 117-67.

CENTENARY MEN: The Gents’ late-season collapse continued this weekend as their losing streak reached nine. Wrapping up its home schedule, Centenary (6-17, 4-10 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell Sunday 68-58 to St. Thomas despite 16 points by Chris Collier, after a 68-47 drubbing Friday night by Colorado College.

CENTENARY WOMEN: It was more of the same for the Ladies, whose skid is now 11 straight losses. Colorado College rolled over Centenary 76-45 Friday night and St. Thomas posted a 66-39 decision on Sunday to drop the Ladies to 2-20 overall, 1-13 in the league. The Centenary teams are on the road next weekend.

BOSSIER PARISH CC:  The country’s fourth-ranked NJCAA squad, Trinity Valley, soared to 23-2 overall and 15-2 in Region XIV competition Saturday after blasting the Cavaliers 82-55 at Billy Montgomery Gym. BPCC  (15-10, 7-10) got 13 points from Braylan McNeal. The Cavs are home again next Saturday afternoon
