Detectives with the SPD’s Sex Crimes Unit have obtained an arrest warrant for Louis James Bates (DOB: 2/29/2004) in connection with a February 2024 incident involving the rape of a 68-year-old female. Bates faces one count of First Degree Rape.

Investigators identified Bates as a suspect on Sept. 3, 2024, through a match linked to evidence collected during the victim’s Physical Evidence Recovery Kit. Bates has a prior sexual criminal history, which further substantiated the issuance of the arrest warrant. 

If convicted of First Degree Rape, Bates could face a sentence of life imprisonment.
