While on patrol on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at approximately 11:10 AM, Sgt. Freeman of the Haughton Police Department noticed a large cloud of smoke coming from the south end of town. Upon arrival to the location of 230 S. Foster Dr., Sgt. Freeman immediately notified 911 of an active structure fire. Haughton Fire Department, Bossier Parish Fire District #1, and South Bossier Fire District 2 arrived on scene and to extinguish the fire.
Tragically, one individual was found deceased inside the structure. After a joint investigation with the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, their investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Steven Movan for Simple Arson, Manslaughter, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, and Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine). Movan was booked into the Bossier Parish Maximum Facility by the Haughton Police Department.
The case is still under investigation.
