With Quinton Wilson lighting up the scoreboard, the Woodlawn Knights finally got one in the win column Friday night, taking a 48-0 victory over the Lakeview Gators.
Wilson, a senior running back, had a huge night for the Knights, scoring five rushing touchdowns, the longest covering 55 yards. Fellow senior Brandon Henderson added a 40-yard TD catch.
After a couple of close calls in the first two games, Jotavian Scroggins finally nabbed his first interception in the first half – a crucial one, according to Knights coach Thedrick Harris, who was relieved to head home happy.
“It was good for us to get the win,” Harris said. “I don’t care who it was against, we got the win. It’s good for our kids to finally see the fruits of their labor pay off. I’m proud of the way they played. They could have put their heads down and given up.”
Lakeview (0-3) suffered a third consecutive shutout. The Gators will host DeQuincy next week while Woodlawn travels to Minden.
Northwood 64, Mansfield 32: The Falcons blocked a punt for a touchdown then had eight more scores by eight different players.
Northwood coach Austin Brown said his team may have been a little too quick to score on offense. The Falcons ran only 47 plays, but the defense faced 97.
“I haven’t had a game like that – ever,” Brown said. “Defense, we just couldn’t get off the field. With our pace and our tempo … it’s not just about our offense. It also makes other teams have to play a lot faster and use a lot more snaps than they’re used to.”
The Falcons (3-0) travel to rival North DeSoto next week to open district play.
Logansport 44, Bossier 12: Too many turnovers didn’t help the Bearkats against a Logansport team (2-1) that rebounded from a loss at Loyola.
“We’ve got to go back to the drawing board on that,” said Bossier coach Gary Smith. “We made too many mistakes against a good football team.”
Randy Robinson scored one of the Bossier touchdowns on an 80-yard kickoff return.
The Bearkats (1-2) travel to Booker T. Washington next week.
North Caddo 36, Southwood 32: Just when North Caddo seemed in control, long-struggling Southwood rose up.
The Cowboys converted two straight onside kicks in the fourth quarter, and cashed them in during a frantic rally Thursday at Independence Stadium. But Southwood’s bid to end a 38-game losing skid (including a pair of 2022 forfeits) fell just short when a third onside didn’t work with 1:15 remaining. The Titans were able to get a first down, drain the Cowboys’ supply of timeouts, and ran out the clock.
“It got scary there at the end,” said North Caddo coach Chase Thompson, whose squad rose to 2-1. “We weathered the storm. It was a tense situation at the end for sure.”
“If we’d had a little bit more time, the kids had found some momentum and began making some plays,” said Southwood coach Mike Green after the Cowboys (0-2) went down by one score for the second straight week. “We ran out of time, and they held on.”
Lakeside 62, Plain Dealing 0: Surprising Lakeside improved to 3-0 while handing the Lions their 27th consecutive loss and the second shutout in a row for Plain Dealing.
The Warriors scored on their first four possessions and their first team ran only six plays as Lakeside rolled to an early 42-0 lead.
Eli Santelices scored one touchdown on a 70-yard run and another on a 50-yard pass from quarterback Brock Case. Kentavion Miller scored on a 50-yard run, Trevor Tharp had a touchdown catch, James Maxie had a touchdown run and Jamarion Evans scored on a 30-yard fumble recovery,
The Lions will host powerful Haynesville next week.
