DIRT hard at work helping storm victims in Bossier Parish

Sheriff Whittington is proud of the DIRT (Disaster Immediate Response Team), BSO deputies, and Bossier Parish Police Jury crews who have been hard at work helping storm victims in Bossier Parish. The work began July 11 as requests for assistance began pouring into the BSO command centers at Platt Elementary in Haughton and Red River Baptist Church in Benton. The team of contractors, equipment operators, deputies, and Police Jury crews have been clearing and moving debris despite the sweltering temperatures.

Overall, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office has received 64 requests for assistance from citizens in Benton and Haughton. The DIRT has been able to totally complete 13 of those requests as of this afternoon. Even with all of the progress, the work will continue until all of the requests are fulfilled. If you have requested assistance and haven’t received any help, please be patient and we will be there to help you.

The disaster recovery efforts will continue in Bossier Parish into the foreseeable future.

State and Parish leaders also met at Red River Baptist Church to discuss damage assessment procedures and recovery plans for the parish.

Sheriff Whittington would also like to remind residents who elect to hire their own help for debris, tree, etc. removal to make sure that they are hiring reputable contractors who are not just trying to scam them out of money.
