Inmate charged after attacking jailer at Shreveport City Jail

Shreveport Police Jail Personnel were attempting to transport 33-year-old Sammy Powell to the Caddo Correctional Facility on July 6 when Powell became irate and refused to cooperate with the jail staff. During the incident, Powell made multiple threats to the jail staff and ultimately attacked one of the jailers before being subdued.

As a result of his actions, Powell now faces charges of battery of a police officer, threatening a public official, and resisting an officer. Fortunately, the jailer involved in the incident was not injured.

This incident underscores the daily challenges and risks faced by our correctional officers. The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to maintaining the safety and security of both our staff and inmates.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
