Shreveport’s Caddo Common Outdoor Pavilion was once again the place to experience superb local musicians Saturday, June 15 as the Shreveport Regional Arts Council sponsored another delightful summer concert.
Shreveport’s New Dimensions Choral Society, a tireless powerhouse in its 54th season, presented selections from Gershwin’s American Opera “Porgy & Bess” to a delighted audience. The singers then performed a number of “Spirituals, Spirituals Galore”. The eclectic selections ranged from traditional spirituals such as “Way Over in Beulah Land” and “Old One-Hundreds” to Beethoven’s “Hallelujah”.
These concerts sponsored by the SRAC have been simply incredible and showcase the deep level of musical and artistic talent residing in our area.
The family-friendly event also featured play and hands-on art areas for children. There was also a “Live Art” area for painters. Food trucks filled the air with savory aromas. The concert was funded by a grant from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and is one of a continuing series of events held in the area.
From concerts, presentations, artwalks and other public events to the creative reuse of the old Central Fire Station and beautiful Caddo Common Park, the SRAC is doing much to improve the cultural life of our area.
