Arrest of felon in possession of firearm

The Shreveport Police Department made a significant arrest in the early hours of March 2nd,  apprehending 32-year-old Robert Mayfield in the 3000 block of Youree Drive. The arrest followed a routine encounter with a suspicious individual, during which officers identified Mayfield and discovered outstanding warrants against him for domestic abuse battery with strangulation.

During the encounter, officers discovered Mayfield was in possession of a firearm. Further investigation revealed that Mayfield, with a prior felony conviction, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Chief Wayne Smith of the Shreveport Police Department emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “We take illegal firearm possession very seriously, especially when it involves individuals with prior felony convictions.”

Mayfield was promptly arrested and charged with one count of felony possession of a firearm. The swift action of law enforcement highlights their commitment to ensuring public safety and enforcing firearm regulations.
