In response to warnings from the U.S. National Weather Service about an impending Arctic Blast, the City of Shreveport, in collaboration with SPAR, took proactive measures to assist residents. The forecast had indicated an increased likelihood of an Arctic air mass impacting the region, bringing subfreezing temperatures and wintry precipitation.
To address the anticipated extreme weather conditions, the City of Shreveport and SPAR designated Bilberry Park Community Center and Airport Park Community Center as “Warming Shelters” on Monday, January 15th, operating from 8 am to 7 pm. These shelters aimed to provide a refuge for residents seeking relief from the bitterly cold temperatures.
Furthermore, on Tuesday, January 16th, all SPAR Recreation Centers were activated as warming shelters, offering a safe and warm environment for anyone in need. The City of Shreveport had strongly encouraged residents to stay informed about weather updates, take necessary precautions, and utilize these warming shelters if required during the weather event.
For further information and real-time updates, residents could have visited the City of Shreveport’s official website at www.shreveportla.gov/ or checked their social media channels. It was a collective effort to ensure the community’s safety during the Arctic Blast.
