Caddo Parish adopts comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan

The Caddo Parish Commission recently greenlit the adoption of its long-awaited Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan during its latest session on November 22. This milestone marks the culmination of a rigorous two-year collaboration involving the Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Shreveport’s Public Assembly and Recreation Department (SPAR), and the esteemed consulting firm SJB Group.

The development journey of this Master Plan was far-reaching and all-encompassing. It wove together a tapestry of public engagement meetings and online surveys that drew insights from the vibrant community of Caddo Parish. Citizens, alongside park department staff, contributed their thoughts and aspirations, shaping a visionary roadmap for the future.

“This Comprehensive Master Plan offers Caddo Parish residents a glimpse into their envisioned park systems for the next decade or more. From this blueprint, the Caddo Parks and Recreation Department has already set in motion strategic priorities, goals, and objectives poised to fortify services for every citizen and visitor,” remarked Patrick Wesley, Director of Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department.

This Master Plan stands as a beacon guiding forthcoming developments and advancements within Caddo Parish’s public parks, open spaces, greenways, trails, and recreational services. Its horizon stretches to 2035, outlining a trajectory of growth and enhancement. Moreover, it accentuates the imperative of conserving natural, recreational, and cultural resources while advocating for prudent fiscal planning and sustainable expansion.

With this Master Plan now in place, Caddo Parish sets sail towards a future brimming with vibrant, accessible, and responsibly nurtured recreational spaces for its diverse community and future generations.
