Airline quarterback Ben Taylor averaged 350.7 yards per game to lead all area passers in passing to highlight the 2023 football regular season statistical leaders.
Taylor was consistent throughout the season with two 400-yard passing games, seven of more than 300 yards and one of just over 250 yards in passing. He connected on 261 passes of 357 attempts and an area best 44 touchdowns.
Abram Wardell of Calvary had an equally impressive season completing 80 percent of this passes (187 of 235), with only one interception and he was second behind Taylor with 2,921 yards.
Captain Shreve running back Jamarlon Otis led the area rushers with 1,680 yards on 189 carries and 18 touchdowns. Benton’s Greg Manning was second in rushing yards with 1,403 and topped the area with 21 rushing touchdowns. He also led everybody for the second consecutive year with 25 touchdowns and has 75 career TDs that is good enough to tie him with Jeremy Jefferson of Booker T. Washington for second all-time in Shreveport-Bossier. Abram Booty of Evangel has the all-time record with 83.
Taylor’s top target is the area’s leading receiver Jarvis Davis who has 73 receptions and second most yards with 1,082. Parker Fulghum of Evangel leads in receiving yards with 1,166 and is second in catches with 57.
Another target of Taylor, Bryson Broom led in receiving touchdowns with 15. He along with teammate Tre’Von Jackson led the Vikings with 16 total touchdowns.
Calvary led the area in scoring averaging 46.6 points a game just ahead of Airline’s 46.3, a regular-season school record for the Vikings. Both scored more than 60 touchdowns on the season.
