Haughton aims for another playoff appearance

Haughton is beginning its eighth season under head coach Jason Brotherton and is going after its 27th straight playoff appearance, second in the Shreveport-Bossier are to Evangel who has 32 straight entering the 2023 season. 

The Bucs finished last season 6-6 to give Brotherton a 51-30 mark in his seven seasons as the head mentor.  

They open the season against Red River for the third consecutive season and fourth in the last five. Winning the season opener has become a regular occurrence with 13 straight victories dating back to 2009 when they lost to Airline 21-12.  

A trip to Lake Charles follows to take on LaGrange. The Gators will be led by first-year coach Idaibi Ogbanga who took over for former Haughton Buc Marrico Wilson. 

Many will come to Haughton in Week 3. The Tigers are the defending Non-Select Division III state champions and will also be led by a new head coach in former Grant High School coach Dillon Barrett, after Jess Curtis’ move to Natchitoches Central.  

District 1-5A play kicks in Week 4 at Parkway and after venturing across the river to play Southwood the Bucs host Byrd and Airline. A couple more road games at Benton and Natchitoches Central come before the season finale against Captain Shreve between the pines.
