On Tuesday afternoon, Bossier Schools offered a Sneak Peek of the RISE ABOVE traveling exhibit that honors the accomplishments and contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). Members of Barksdale Air Force Base were on hand to receive certificates proclaiming March 22, 2023 “Tuskegee Airmen Appreciation Day” and “WASP Appreciation Day.”
Nearly 350 students from seven schools will get the chance to tour the exhibit over the course of two days to learn the history and hear the stories of these heroes. The public will then have the chance to tour the mobile classroom at the Barksdale Air Show this weekend.
The latest Bossier Parish Schools to be named Purple Star Schools were recognized during Tuesday’s event. Administrators from Rusheon Middle School, Sun City Elementary, Platt Elementary, and Benton Elementary were on hand to receive their banners.
Purple Star status is given to schools to signify they meet a high standard when it comes to providing support and various services to military children and their families. Bossier Parish has more Purple Star schools than any school system in the state.
The Defenders of Liberty Air Show takes place this weekend at Barksdale Air Force Base. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with the show starting at 11:00 a.m. both days. The show ends at approximately 4:00 p.m.
