North Caddo, Haughton cruise; Airline, Calvary, Parkway delayed

By ROY LANG III, Journal Sports

Thursday evening’s stormy weather followed lots of lightning by North Caddo and Haughton in impressive routs of Bossier and Red River, respectively; but it forced Airline, Calvary, and Parkway to delay their season openers.

NORTH CADDO 46, BOSSIER 0: Even though they played just a half, the Titans started the 2022 season with a bang Thursday night, dominating the visiting Bearkats.

Both coaches agreed to call it a game when weather prevented further play.

“We were balanced on offense,” North Caddo head coach Johnny Kavanaugh told the Journal after his team was declared the winner at the end of the first half due to lightning.

Aiden Brock, KJ Black and Trey Morris scored on the ground for North Caddo (1-0), while Omarion Miller and J’Quay Vincent hauled in touchdown passes.

Miller also added a Pick-6.

The Titans will host North Webster in Week 2. The Bearkats (0-1) are scheduled to host Glenbrook (1-0) in Week 2.

HAUGHTON 35, RED RIVER 0: The Bucs rolled up 267 total yards of offense and held the Bulldogs to just 87 yards in the first half before the game was called due to lightning.

Haughton quarterback Colin Rains completed 12 of 16 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns — all to Rashard Douglas (9, 17, and 45 yards) — and also added a rushing touchdown. Jalen Lewis caught four passes for 45 yards, Tyler Rhodes rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Carter Ebarb converted on all five extra-point kicks.

The Bucs were just as impressive on defense, forcing three fumbles (with two recoveries) and limiting the Bulldogs to just three completions for 2 yards.

Haughton (1-0) will host LaGrange in Week 2 while Red River (0-1) opens the season against Barbe.

PARKWAY-MINDEN, resumes Saturday: The Panthers and visiting Crimson Tide played less than four minutes Thursday and will get a rare respite before finishing the rest of the season opener.

The game was scoreless at Preston Crownover Stadium when weather forced a postponement until Saturday (10 a.m.), but the Panthers wasted no time racking up yards on offense.

Parkway began its first possession on its 3-yard line and needed just four plays to cover 87 yards. However, Minden recovered a fumble to stop the threat.

The Panthers defense forced a three-and-out and helped their offense take control near midfield. Parkway advanced to the Minden 22 before the game was interrupted by lightning with 8:34 left in the opening quarter, and eventually postponed.

AIRLINE-NORTH DESOTO, postponed until tonight:  The weather arrived before kickoff Thursday at Griffin Stadium in Stonewall, and the season opener between the visiting Vikings and the Griffins never started. The contest will be held tonight at 7.

CALVARY-LOGANSPORT, postponed until Saturday:  Weather won Thursday night as the game never started at Jerry Barker Stadium. The contest will be held Saturday, with a 5 p.m. kickoff at Calvary.
