Magnolia Charter doesn’t have a problem scheduling good teams, looking at its 2022 football season slate. The Mariners have three non-district opponents that won eight or more regular season games and two of them won state championships last season.
Magnolia opens by hosting Lake Charles Prep, who went 8-2 last year but was ruled ineligible for the playoffs.
It is on the road the next week to Lake Providence to play General Trass, 9-0 going into postseason and knocked out of the Class 2A playoffs in the quarterfinals by eventual state champion Amite.
Another road trip follows, this one south of Baton Rouge to St. Gabriel to face East Iberville, who was 1-7 a season ago.
District 1-1A starts in the fourth week of the season and the Mariners host defending Class A champion Homer. The Pelicans posted a 9-3 overall record last season.
Magnolia Charter is back on the road for a midseason non-district clash with defending Class 4A champion Westgate.
Four of the last five games will be home games in district. The first will be Glenbrook of Minden coming to Shreveport. The Apaches finished last season 8-2 but were not eligible for the playoffs with it being their first year competing in the LHSAA.
Plain Dealing is next followed by perennial power Haynesville. The Golden Tornado was bounced from last year’s playoffs in the semifinals by Homer. Arcadia is the final home game in the ninth week before a trip to Ringgold to round out the regular season.
