MONROE – Rainy weather is often only an obstacle to deal with on a golf course. But for tennis competition, it’s a black flag.

A fuzzy tennis ball simply isn’t compatible with wet courts.

Bad weather postponed the start of the LHSAA’s Division III and Division IV state tennis tournaments Monday. The tournament gets its start today and will finish on Wednesday.

Divisions I and II will play their state tournament Thursday and Friday in Monroe.

Meanwhile, LHSAA golf regional tournaments scheduled Monday proceeded as planned, with relatively brief delays in tee times and more challenging conditions for players.

The next significant chance of rain comes Saturday.

Querbes Cup cancelled

The 2nd Annual Querbes Cup that was to be held this weekend at Querbes Tennis Center has been cancelled due to low entry numbers. A Player Party was scheduled for Friday night, when teams were to be announced. The team-format doubles competition was supposed to take place all day Saturday.
