RUSTON – Louisiana Tech will apparently be searching for a new men’s basketball coach with reports breaking Monday that Eric Konkol will be introduced Tuesday as the successor to fired Frank Haith at Tulsa.
Multiple Tulsa media outlets and national writers broke the news late Monday morning. It was not immediately confirmed by Louisiana Tech Monday afternoon.
Konkol, 45, won 67 percent of his games (153-75) in seven seasons at Tech, and over 20 wins six times. He was an assistant at Miami before following Mike White as the Bulldogs head coach.
His best season came in 2020-21, a 24-8 campaign that carried Tech to the National Invitation Tournament semifinals, with a third-place finish after losing to Mississippi State and edging Colorado State in the consolation game.
The Tulsa World reported Konkol signed a $2 million extension through 2026, so a buyout payment will be required if he is heading out from Ruston.
Konkol was a student assistant coach at Tulsa in 2000-01.
