District 1-5A teams still in the hunt for the league title will all be facing off Friday heading into next week’s final regular season games.
Captain Shreve (22-5, 10-1) goes across the river to play at Airline (14-8, 8-3) for the Vikings Senior Night celebration. The Gators are riding a six-game win streak and narrowly defeated the Vikings on their home floor (47-46) in the first half of the district schedule.
The Gators have relied on their defense allowing 37.6 points per game on the year and score at a 53.2 clip. Seniors Kyron Reed (12.0) and Christan Ford (11.0) are the individual scoring leaders for Shreve.
Airline, who averages 52.8 points per game and surrenders 50.9, is led in scoring by senior A.J. Coleman at 16.2 points per game since the first of the new year. Trevon Jackson, a sophomore, averages 11.3 points, Cameron Walker 9.5 and Colby O’Glee 8.5.
The other matchup of top teams in 1-5A has Southwood (15-14, 8-3) traveling to Natchitoches to battle the Chiefs (19-5, 9-2). The Cowboys won the first meeting of the two 62-59.
The Chiefs are one of the top scoring teams in the area averaging 60.5 points per game and give up 52.5 points a game.
Southwood averages 52.4 per game and relinquishes 51.8 a game. Senior Mar’quarius Johnson leads the Cowboys averaging 18 points a game and sophomore center Jeremiah Evans comes in averaging 12.9 points and 8 rebounds.
District 1-4A has a key matchup Friday as Woodlawn (22-8, 7-2) will play at Booker T. Washington (20-8, 7-3). The Knights won earlier at their place 55-53. Both teams are trying to stay right behind league leader Huntington (8-1).
Other 1-4A games will have Evangel (16-7, 5-3) at Northwood (13-13, 3-5); Minden (4-21, 1-6) at Huntington (16-5, 8-1).
District 1-3A games set for Friday include North Webster (7-18, 0-6) at Green Oaks (9-16, 2-4) and Mansfield (11-8, 4-1) at Loyola (10-17, 2-4).
North Caddo (4-0) and Jonesboro-Hodge (4-1) will go after the league lead in 1-2A in Vivian. The Titans are 11-13 overall while the Tigers are 14-5 and have a No. 7 power rating.
Ringgold (12-15, 4-2) will try to hand Calvary (17-7, 5-0) its first District 1-1A loss when it hosts the Cavaliers. CBA is on a nine-game win streak, its last loss to Bossier (58-42) on Jan. 8. The Redskins dropped a 61-52 decision at Arcadia Tuesday.
Plain Dealing (3-18, 2-5) will go to Minden to face Glenbrook (6-11, 1-5) in another 1-1A game.
