Huntington hosts BTW with hopes of another perfect district season

Huntington’s girls basketball team will host Booker T. Washington with a number of streaks it would like to keep going like clinching its third straight District 1-4A championship.

The Lady Raiders (14-6, 9-0) currently have an 8-game win streak and better yet has not lost a district game in 30 previous outings. They have made it to Marsh Madness the past two seasons, finishing as state runners-up last year and state semifinalists the previous season.

BTW (20-10, 8-1) has won five in a row since last losing to Huntington (78-31). A win for the Lady Lions would most likely improve their current No. 16 power ranking enough to assure them a first-round home playoff game.

Minden (9-15, 4-5) will host Northwood (15-13, 5-4) with a chance to pull into a third place tie with the Lady Falcons. The Tide has a current power ranking of 33 so they will need to win the rest of their games to ensure making the playoffs.

With a Minden win Woodlawn could make it a four-way tie for third if it defeats North DeSoto. The Lady Knights (13-13, 4-5) travel to Stonewall to face North DeSoto (7-17, 1-7).

Parkway has clinched the District 1-5A title with Southwood, Benton, Natchitoches Central and Haughton all battling to finish in second.

Southwood (19-9, 7-4) will host Haughton (15-10, 5-6) and Natchitoches (13-12, 5-6) will play at Benton (19-9, 6-5). Airline (20-11, 6-5) will host Parkway (25-2, 11-0) needing to win to stay in third place and improve on a No. 15 power ranking.

Captain Shreve (12-14, 4-7) plays at Byrd (11-13, 0-11) to round out the 1-5A schedule of games.

District 1-3A leader Mansfield (16-5, 4-0) will entertain Bossier (7-13, 4-3) with a chance to clinch a tie for the 1-3A title with a win. A Loyola loss added to a win would clinch an outright title.

Loyola (13-11, 4-2) will travel to Springhill to play North Webster (3-14, 0-4). The Flyers defeated North Caddo 47-42 Wednesday in a non-district game.

North Caddo (8-11, 1-1) will play at D’Arbonne Woods (2-12, 1-2) in a District 1-2A game. First place Jonesboro-Hodge (8-13, 2-0) will play host to last place Lakeside (2-13, 0-1).

District 1-1A leader Arcadia (15-9, 4-0) takes a No. 8 power ranking to Plain Dealing (10-14, 2-2) and Haynesville (8-15, 2-2) is at Calvary (7-9, 1-3).
