Crime statistics show reductions across the city, while rising traffic fatalities remain a serious concern.
On Tuesday, October 27, Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith presented year-to-date crime statistics to the Shreveport City Council and Mayor Tom Arceneaux, highlighting encouraging trends in public safety while addressing growing concerns on Shreveport roadways.
The statistics, compiled using 911 call data and calls for service, provide a valuable tool for measuring crime trends and public safety concerns throughout our community.
According to the year-to-date data, Shreveport has experienced reductions across all reported crime categories. Chief Smith credits these reductions to the hard work, dedication, and relentless efforts of the men and women of the Shreveport Police Department, who work tirelessly every day to make our community safer.
However, one troubling trend continues to stand out: the increase in motor vehicle crashes and traffic fatalities across our city.
Unfortunately, Shreveport continues to experience far too many fatal traffic crashes. Every traffic fatality represents a life lost, a family forever changed, and a tragedy that may have been preventable.
The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to aggressive traffic enforcement, impaired driving prevention, and public education to help reduce these tragedies.
While the reductions in crime are encouraging, our work is far from finished. We remain committed to making Shreveport a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
The public is encouraged to review the accompanying PowerPoint presentation for a detailed breakdown of the year-to-date crime statistics.
