Operation Blessing Food Drive begins at Bossier Parish schools

The Bossier Sheriff’s Office is getting a head start on the season of giving! Beginning this week, BSO work crews are delivering food barrels to schools throughout Bossier Parish and getting them ready for students, faculty and staff to fill with donations.

The food drive supports Bossier Parish Operation Blessing, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office food bank program that provides assistance to families in need throughout the year. During the Christmas season, donated canned goods and non-perishable food items are used to prepare “Spirit of Christmas” food boxes, which deputies and Posse members deliver to residents in need. Brookshire’s Grocery provides the boxes for the program.

Sheriff Whittington said, “Every year, our schools and community step up to help their neighbors, and that generosity makes a real difference for families across our parish. We are grateful for everyone who contributes to Operation Blessing and helps make the Christmas season a little brighter for those who need it most.”

Since beginning in 1998, Operation Blessing has relied entirely on donations from individuals, businesses and organizations, never public funds. The program also provides food assistance to approximately 80 to 90 families each week throughout the year.

Want to help? Residents can donate canned goods and other non-perishable food items at the Bossier Sheriff’s Office substations on Viking Drive or Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.

Thank you to our Bossier Parish schools and everyone who helps make Operation Blessing possible. Together, we can help put food on the table for our neighbors this Christmas!
