Shreveport man arrested following shooting, altercation at Freestate Boulevard business

A 42-year-old man was arrested following an altercation that resulted in a shooting at a Shreveport business on October 21.

According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting at approximately 5 p.m. at Whaley Food Service, located at 129 Freestate Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers located Michael Durham, 42, suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand.

The on-call Violent Crimes detective was contacted, and a witness was taken to the Detective Office for a formal interview.

According to the witness, Durham arrived at his wife’s workplace and began banging on the door. When his wife opened the door, Durham allegedly rushed inside and punched another man in the face.

The witness reported hearing two gunshots before seeing Durham flee the business. She later caught up with Durham and discovered that his hand was bleeding.

Investigators learned that the other man allegedly produced a firearm and shot Durham during the altercation.

The witness also told detectives that Durham had previously threatened to harm the man because he believed the man was having an affair with his wife.

Durham was transported to Ochsner LSU Health for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand.

The other man was transported to Willis-Knighton North for treatment of minor head injuries.

Based on the investigation, detectives instructed officers to arrest Durham on a charge of second-degree battery.
