Calvary has a stranglehold on the No. 1 spot in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Top 10 Class 2A poll.
The Cavaliers (7-0) got all 11 first place votes after another dominant win Friday. But they face their toughest challenge this Friday, going to New Orleans to play Archibishop Shaw, ranked fourth in Class 4A.
Haughton (7-0) picked up a point in the “also receiving votes” category in Class 5A after getting a Top 10 vote last week for the first time in several years.
Calvary (6-0), in its fifth week at No. 1 in Class 2A, received all 11 first-place votes for a fourth straight poll.
Open dates last week had different impacts on Green Oaks and Loyola.
The 6-0 Giants retained the three points they had a week ago in the “also receiving votes” 2A listing.
Loyola inexplicably lost six points in the ARV category in Class 3A, slipping from 15 and on the edge of the Top 10 to nine points and third among those just outside the ranked teams. The Flyers actually won last week, by forfeit over Carroll.
No other Shreveport-Bossier teams are getting support.
Twenty-two teams in this week’s voting are from the 318 area code, including 15 among the 50 who are ranked in their classification’s top 10.
Eleven sports media members in the LSWA are polled weekly to compile the rankings.
