Shreveport Police cite three arrests involving firearms and narcotics

The Shreveport Police Department has reported three arrests involving firearms and narcotics following separate investigations and enforcement efforts by multiple units within the department.

According to police, Joe Martin was arrested by SPD narcotics agents on multiple counts of illegal carrying of weapons and one count of distribution of narcotics.

During the investigation, agents also determined that Martin was in possession of a firearm despite having multiple prior felony convictions.

In a separate case, Bobby Ray Montgomery was arrested October 9 following an investigation conducted by the department’s VCAT unit and an SPD officer.

With assistance from partner agencies, investigators took Montgomery into custody and conducted a search of his residence.

During the search, officers recovered three firearms and approximately 25 grams of marijuana.

Montgomery was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.

A third arrest occurred October 12 at approximately 8 p.m. when officers assigned to SPD’s Directed Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop involving Ricky Wright.

According to police, officers discovered that Wright was in possession of a firearm despite having previous narcotics convictions and a conviction for battery on an officer.

Wright was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Shreveport Police Department stated that the arrests reflect ongoing enforcement efforts involving traffic stops, criminal investigations, search warrants, and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.

Police said officers will continue working to address illegal firearm possession and narcotics-related offenses throughout the city.

All three individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
