Byrd and Huntington barely missed postgame celebrations last Friday. Tonight is the night for one of them.

The Yellow Jackets and Raiders have identical 0-5 records, 0-1 in District 1-5A, heading into their meeting at Lee Hedges Stadium.

Both lost in the final minute on the road last week, Byrd bowing 31-28 when Benton completed a fourth-quarter rally, and Huntington beaten 38-36 at state Class 4A power Franklin Parish.

There’s a District 1-4A status check tonight in Blanchard when a rebuilding Northwood team hosts Booker T. Washington. The Lions are 4-1, aiming to emerge as the top challenger to North DeSoto in the league. The Falcons put up 53 points at home two weeks ago in a wild loss to Loyola but were drilled at North DeSoto last Friday in their district debut.

Two local stalwarts travel a couple hours east on I-20 tonight. Unbeaten Haughton steps out of District 1-5A and visits Class 1A St. Frederick. Loyola plays its first game in District 1-3A at Sterlington, which is the two-time defending Non-Select Division III state champion.
