Whether you look at LHSAA power rankings or LSWA Top 10 votes, Loyola and Calvary stand atop the heap in Shreveport-Bossier football.

They collide tonight at Calvary’s Jerry Barker Stadium in their first meeting since 2023. The Cavaliers have won all six previous games with Loyola.

They are the only two local teams in the sportswriters’ state top 10 polls. Calvary (4-0) is No. 1 in Class 2A. Loyola (3-1) is No. 7 in Class 3A.

In the LHSAA’s power rankings, the postseason barometer to build playoff brackets, they share the same territory. With Loyola shifted down  to reflect its actual enrollment, the Flyers join the Cavaliers in Select Division III.

The formula to establish the rankings currently places Loyola third and Calvary fifth statewide.

Both are lighting up scoreboards. Calvary has posted 216 points, one more than Loyola.

The Flyers scored on every possession last week in a 71-53 win at Northwood. Calvary rolled on the road, 53-0 over Union Parish.

Three District 1-5A games tonight send Byrd to Benton, Evangel to Captain Shreve and Airline to Natchitoches Central.

Northwood starts District 1-4A competition with its toughest test, visiting unbeaten and No. 3-ranked North DeSoto.

Green Oaks puts its perfect record on the line in Alexandria, visiting Peabody.
