Tyrann Mathieu couldn’t make the trip from the Northshore to Shreveport last month but as promised, he’ll be here soon enough.
The annual Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl Kickoff Dinner featuring the LSU football legend and the Super Bowl champion, who retired as a New Orleans Saint in his hometown, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at the Shreveport Convention Center.
Illness that cropped up on the morning of his scheduled Aug. 18 appearance scuttled that event hours before it was to begin. At the time, bowl officials said Mathieu had committed to a makeup date to be arranged, and now it has.
Mathieu rose to prominence as a member of the LSU Tigers in 2010 and 2011, becoming college football’s premier game-changer by forcing turnovers on defense and scoring electric touchdowns on special teams. He built on his game-breaking reputation in the National Football League during his 12-year career, earning first-team All-Pro three times and second-team All-Pro once. He was also a key member of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV-winning defense.
He joins the prestigious list of names who have spoken at the event over the first 15 years of the event, which includes Terry Bradshaw, Bobby Bowden, Lou Holtz, Jason Witten, Emmitt Smith, Archie Manning, Herschel Walker, Steve Spurrier, Drew Brees, Devin White, Marcus Spears, Kim Mulkey, Paul Skenes, Holly Rowe and Mack Brown.
