Calvary rose to the No. 1 ranking in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 2A top 10 poll for Week 3 of the high school football season, while Loyola stayed eighth in the Class 3A rankings.
Those were the only two Shreveport-Bossier schools receiving votes again this week.
Calvary blasted Bunkie on the road, 58-14, last Friday. Meanwhile the previous 2A No. 1, Dunham, was hammered 58-8 by 5A’s fifth-ranked team, Catholic of Baton Rouge, and slipped to second place.
Loyola nearly notched its second consecutive 5A win, getting nipped 42-41 by Parkway on a last-minute touchdown and two-point conversion. Voters maintained their support for the Flyers, who lost just three points and maintained the No. 8 ranking in Class 3A.
Only 14 of the 50 ranked teams in this week’s top 10 polls are from the 318 area code.
Eleven sports media members in the LSWA are polled weekly to compile the rankings.
