The Parkway at Loyola contest tops tonight’s high school football schedule locally, with Evangel hosting Neville, Booker T. Washington going to Benton and Green Oaks welcoming North Webster among other matchups of high interest.
Other Shreveport-Bossier teams at home tonight are Captain Shreve, Green Oaks, Haughton, Huntington, Magnolia School of Excellence and Plain Dealing.
The BTW at Benton game reunites former coaching colleagues Gary Cooper and Stephen Dennis. Cooper, the Lions’ head coach, and Dennis were on the Northwood defensive staff together and when Dennis became Huntington’s head coach, he hired Cooper. A year later, Cooper was named to revitalize the BTW program and he has done just that.
“I have a high, high opinion of Gary Cooper and his offensive mind, and just him as a coach and a person,” said Dennis. “Not only do I call him a peer, but he’s a good friend.”
The Green Oaks contest is a homecoming for North Webster head coach Christopher Wilson, who was an assistant coach for the Giants a decade ago.
Plain Dealing and Lakeview will square off aiming for postgame celebration. The Lions have lost 45 straight, the longest skid in the state, and the Gators have dropped their last 28, the second-longest skid among active football schools.
