Four local teams kick off Week 2 high school football competition with home games tonight, though three have homefields off campus.

Byrd, Green Oaks and Woodlawn play at home after bus rides to their home stadiums. The Bossier Bearkats are home in Memorial Stadium.

Bossier and Green Oaks aim for 2-0 starts. Byrd nearly pulled off the most impressive Class 5A win in north Louisiana by going to defending Non-Select Division I state champion Ouachita and leading much of the way in a 44-37 loss. Woodlawn nearly made coach Lavelle Wilson’s debut a big success, falling 20-14 at Carroll in Monroe, and this week the Knights play their home opener against another Monroe squad, Richwood – Wilson’s alma mater.

Byrd welcomes Airline to Lee Hedges Stadium tonight in a matchup of District 1-5A teams that will not count in the league standings, since the full schedule was trimmed to six district games for the next two seasons. It will be a collision of two potent offenses.

Airline outran Wossman 48-42 last week as senior quarterback Chase Williams threw for 294 yards on 26 of 36 aim without an interception.  The Yellow Jackets nearly stung Ouachita behind a record-breaking night from senior halfback Christian Maxie, who ran for a Shreveport-Bossier single-game record 429 yards on 40 carries.
