Shreveport Police Investigate Street Takeover on West 70th Street

Shreveport Police are investigating a street takeover over the weekend in which a large crowd gathered on West 70th Street just west of the interstate while drivers performed donut stunts, blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes. Social media videos captured the incident and show pedestrians gathered around the vehicles. No injuries were reported. SPD spokesperson Cpl. Chris Bordelon said investigators are using the social media footage to identify those responsible and that anyone reckless enough to record themselves will be held accountable. Heat Advisory in Effect Today for Caddo and Bossier Parishes

The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Heat Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for Caddo and Bossier parishes, as peak heat index values are expected to climb between 105 and 109 degrees across most locations. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors and family members. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Cooling centers are available through the City of Shreveport and Caddo Parish.

Louisiana Officer Arrested After Allegedly Planting Drugs, Coercing Victim into Sex

A Louisiana law enforcement officer has been arrested on charges of abuse of office and malfeasance in office after investigators found he allegedly attempted to use his position to coerce a victim into sexual activity. In a separate incident, investigators allege the officer worked with another individual to plant illegal narcotics at a residence, resulting in the arrest of an innocent person. The officer was arrested Monday, Sept. 7. Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation. The case carries broader significance for the region as law enforcement agencies across Northwest Louisiana have been engaged in ongoing accountability discussions.

Caddo Parish 9/11 Remembrance Events Set for Thursday

Caddo and Bossier parishes will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a series of community remembrance events Thursday, Sept. 11. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Fire Department, and area first responder organizations are coordinating tributes across the region. Residents are encouraged to attend and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the first responders who answered the call that day.

National Suicide Prevention Week runs Sept. 8-14, and Caddo Parish is hosting events at Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Avenue in Shreveport, through this week. Today’s sessions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. cover fire safety and active shooter awareness. Tomorrow’s sessions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. focus on suicide prevention and gun safety for first responders, military, and the general public.
