Week 1 provided a Shreveport-Bossier single-game rushing record from Byrd’s Christian Maxie and some surprises in local high school football action.
Maxie, a senior halfback, went for 429 yards on 40 carries against reigning Non-Select Division I state champion Ouachita, helping Byrd threaten an upset.
Loyola provided the most surprising victory, with the Class 3A Flyers outscoring the 5A Captain Shreve Gators.
Benton, Bossier and Green Oaks also scored notable wins, while Class 2A Calvary swamped 5A Huntington. Airline and Haughton dodged upset bids by smaller classification foes.
