The long-awaited Southern Hills Pool reopened Sunday with a grand opening celebration hosted by Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation.
The pool reopened to the public from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays throughout September, giving families an opportunity to use the facility even as the traditional summer swimming season comes to an end.
The grand opening celebration featured music by 3Feet, along with free hot dogs and snow cones for the first 500 people. The celebration was free and open to the public.
“For months, one of the questions we’ve heard over and over again is, ‘When is Southern Hills Pool going to be finished?’ Well, we finally have the answer — it’s finished, and we’re ready to welcome everyone back,” said Shelly Ragle, director of SPAR. “We appreciate the community’s patience and excitement as we worked to get to this point. Now it’s time to open the gates, get in the water and celebrate this beautiful new pool together.”
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, Southern Hills Pool will also offer senior water aerobics, providing older adults with an additional opportunity for low-impact exercise and recreation at the newly completed facility. Interested people can call 318-465-3684 for more information about the class.
Airport Park Pool closes for the season on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.
SPAR thanked residents for a great summer at city pools and encouraged families to take advantage of the additional September weekends at Southern Hills Pool.
