Chimp Haven Completes $5.6 Million Expansion Near Shreveport

Chimp Haven, the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary located on 200 forested acres near Keithville in southwest Caddo Parish, has completed a major habitat expansion funded by more than $5.6 million in private donations. The project added a 12-bedroom wing and four outdoor play yards, providing approximately 3,500 square feet of new indoor space and 14,000 square feet of outdoor play areas. The first chimpanzees have already begun moving into the new habitats. The sanctuary currently houses nearly 300 chimpanzees, many formerly used in biomedical research. Chimp Haven relies entirely on private donations for construction projects.

Haughton residents are under a precautionary boil water advisory following a water system issue in the Bossier Parish community. Residents are advised to boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or making ice until the advisory is lifted. The Bossier Parish Police Jury and Louisiana Department of Health will notify residents when the water is declared safe. 290,000 Louisianans Must Switch Health Plans as Healthy Blue Loses Medicaid Contract

The Louisiana Department of Health announced Tuesday that its Medicaid managed care contract with Healthy Blue Louisiana will end Dec. 31, 2026. More than 290,000 enrolled Medicaid members — including thousands in Caddo and Bossier parishes — will need to transition to a new managed care organization by January 1. The LDH said it will communicate directly with affected members and ensure continuity of care during the transition.
