The Bossier Parish Police Jury holds its public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. at the Bossier Parish Courthouse in Benton on Ordinance No. 5127 — a proposal that would criminalize the use of parish-owned restrooms, locker rooms, and changing facilities that do not correspond with a person’s biological sex assigned at birth. Opposition is growing ahead of the hearing. The ACLU of Louisiana has challenged the introduction process, contending the Police Jury violated the state’s Open Meetings Law. A letter signed by 22 organizations and 277 individuals from across Louisiana urges the jury to reject the measure. Louisiana Trans Advocates and a transgender couple who say they were assaulted at Cypress Black Bayou Park in Bossier City in May — and subsequently arrested — are also expected to be present. The ordinance was requested by the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, which said it would give deputies an enforcement tool under a 2024 state law. Penalties range from a $250 fine for a first offense to up to six months in jail for repeated violations.
Two Bossier City Men Sentenced to Federal Prison After Neighbor Called in Complaint

When Bossier City Police responded to the complaint, officers observed several people near a black Nissan SUV. Their investigation led to federal drug trafficking and illegal firearms charges. Both men were sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
