Hannah Jones Speer, 85, of Shreveport, LA passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026 following a brief illness.
She was born on November 12, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia to Zeddie and Ossie Jones. Hannah was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered for her beauty, artistic ability, love of tennis and the outdoors, but most of all her fierce love of family.
Hannah attended the University of Georgia where she was a cheerleader and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines and flew Delta’s inaugural flights from Atlanta to L.A. and Las Vegas.
She married Wayne Henry Speer III in 1963 and they started their married life in his hometown of Houston, TX where they lived until they moved to Shreveport, LA in 1977 with their three children. Hannah was an avid tennis player and owned and operated Omni Sport on Line Avenue for many years.
Hannah is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Wayne Henry Speer III; her daughter Georgia Speer (Woodus Humphrey) of Shreveport, and her sons Wayne Henry Speer IV (Missy) of Austin and Travis Jones Speer of Shreveport. She was blessed with four grandaughters – Hannah Schuttler (John), Catherine Parker (Adrian), Grace Parker (Levi), and Mia Parker; as well as three grandsons – Wayne Henry Speer V, Griffin Speer and Sawyer Speer. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Dawson of Kennessaw, GA.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents Ossie and Zeddie Jones of Roswell, GA, and her in-laws Catherine and Wayne Speer II of Houston.
Honorary pall bearers: Wayne Speer IV, Travis Speer, Quinn Speer, Griffin Speer, Sawyer Speer, Woodus Humphrey Jr. and John Schuttler.
The family would especially like to express their gratitude to Hannah’s caregivers: Joyce Hunter, Maude Warner, Brianna White and Dominique White, as well as a huge thank you to Hospice Nurse Renee Sugg and the nursing staff at the Carpenter House.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
