Gents begin preseason football drills next week

The CentenaryGents will begin preseason practice next week in preparation for their fourth season under coach Byron Dawson rekindling a long-dormant program.

Centenary will open on Sept. 5 against Westgate Christian at home with kickoff set for 6 p.m. in the first of five games played at Atkins Field next to the Gold Dome.

The Gents are scheduled to play nine regular-season games, four on the road. Centenary will play its first two games at home as the Maroon and White will face Millsaps College on Sept. 12 before traveling to Marshall Sept. 19 to meet East Texas Baptist University.

Ticket prices include $15 for a general admission single-game ticket (13 and older), $5 for child

ren 12 and under, and season tickets ranging from $200 for premier seating to $70 for general admission. Children’s season tickets are $20.

The Gents hadn’t played football for eight decades before launching the modern-day program three years ago with an exhibition season.

VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED:  The Ladies are set to play 22 regular-season matches under the leadership of first-year head coach Claire Hiler.

The season opener is Monday, Aug. 31 on the road at Wiley for a non-conference match in Marshall, Texas. Centenary will play its first five matches on the road before its home opener on Thursday, Sept. 17 against Jarvis Christian at 6 p.m. in the Gold Dome.

The Ladies play just six home matches and 16 road/neutral matches along with 14 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches and eight non-conference matches.

Centenary will also face Jarvis Christian on the road on Sept. 3 before playing three matches on Sept. 11-12 in Jackson, Miss. in the annual Millsaps College Volleyball Invitational. The Ladies’ other non-conference matches are Oct. 6 at East Texas Baptist and versus Southern Arkansas on Oct. 20 in the Gold Dome.

Centenary’s home conference matches are Sept. 25 against Austin College, Oct. 16 against the University of the Ozarks, Oct. 17 versus Hendrix College, and its regular-season finale against LeTourneau on Saturday, Nov. 7 for Senior Day.

The 2026 SCAC Tournament is Nov. 13-14 in Longview, Texas and hosted by LeTourneau.

WOMEN’S SOCCER ACADEMIC HONORS: TheUnited Soccer Coaches announced the College Team Academic Award winners, recognized for exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2025-26 academic year. A total of 777 soccer teams (326 men, 451 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2025-26 academic year. Of that total, 175 schools had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized.

The Centenary women’s soccer program excelled in the classroom, boasting a team GPA of 3.50. An impressive 21 Ladies made the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2025 fall term and three were named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer Team.

The Ladies open their season on Tuesday, Sept. 1 against Belhaven in a 6 o’clock match at Atkins Field under the leadership of first-year head coach Merlinn Campagna.
