Caddo Magnet High School sophomore Anya Trutschl has been recognized as a winner in the Louisiana: Mapped StoryMap 2026 Competition, High School Division.

The Global Geospatial Institute (GGI) visited Caddo Magnet High School to present Trutschl with the award for her StoryMap, “From Chain Gangs to Chart Toppers: Lead Belly, Jimmy Peters, and the Lomaxes’ Louisiana Recordings Collection.”

Her entry was created using ArcGIS StoryMaps, powered by Esri, earning her a $100 award and statewide recognition.

Trutschl researched how John Lomax and his family recorded American folk songs in Louisiana during the 1930s using some of the earliest portable recording equipment, highlighting how place influenced the state’s diverse musical traditions. Her project featured Lead Belly’s prison and work-song traditions and Jimmy Peters’ Black Creole juré traditions, both of which became part of Louisiana’s lasting musical influence.

The GGI team traveled to Caddo Magnet High School to present the award in person, joined by faculty and staff who celebrated the achievement alongside her.
