The Bossier Phillies are 3-0 in the state American Legion Baseball Tournament, trying to win it for the third straight summer.

They got a one-hit pitching performance Monday night from Tanner Webb and Landon Martin, who notched the final out and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to close out a 5-1 win over Gauthier-Amedee Post 557 out of Gonzales. Webb struck out nine as he went 6 2/3 innings.

The Phillies (17-2) rapped nine hits, two each from Cole Snell, Jordan Waller and Cooper Holmes. Waller scored twice.

For the second straight game, Bossier broke loose late to take control. The teams were locked in a 1-1 battle until the Phillies plated a pair of runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Waller led off the sixth with a base hit, followed by Holmes doubling to put both in scoring position. Griffin Sibley delivered a go-ahead sacrifice fly and Bradon Stephens doubled in Holmes for a 4-2 advantage. An inning later, Waller doubled in Nate Cervantes, who had walked, and scored on a single by Holmes.

Sunday night, Cervantes drove in four runs as Bossier scored 10 of its 11 runs in its final three at-bats to post a comeback 11-5 win over Jesuit High-based Retif Oil of New Orleans. Cervantes knocked a two-run double in the sixth after drawing a pair of run-producing walks.

The Phillies scored five times, needing only one hit, to take control 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth. They added three more in the fifth and two in the sixth to push away.

Waller and Cervantes each contributed two hits for Bossier while Snell picked up the win, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out six.

Saturday morning, Bossier opened with an 11-1 romp over the Gulf Coast Bank 29ers as Cervantes contributed a pair of hits and Cooper Holmes, Landon Martin and Waller each had two RBI. The Phillies drew eight walks and stole five bases, two by Snell.

The Phillies play tonight at 7, then advance to Wednesday’s championship round in Lafayette.

They have reached the American Legion World Series in each of the past two summers after sweeping state and regional titles.
