Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux took a formal step Tuesday toward seeking a second term, submitting a nominating petition to the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters Office on Marshall Street in downtown Shreveport.
The petition contained more than 960 signatures from registered voters, exceeding the minimum of 750 verified signatures required under Louisiana law to qualify for office by petition. The signatures must still be certified before the filing is considered valid.
Arceneaux, who took office Dec. 31, 2022, is Shreveport’s first Republican mayor since 1998. Qualifying for the mayor and city council races is scheduled for July, with the general election set for Nov. 3, 2026, and any runoff on Dec. 12, 2026. Seven other candidates have announced they are running for the office.
