The five-team Shreveport regional in the NAIA’s Opening Round of its national baseball championship is slated to begin today at 11 a.m., with a second game at 2:30 and the host LSU Shreveport Pilots, the defending national champions, set for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Pilot Field.

That’s the plan.

Rainy weather could intercede and impact game times today, as is typical in mid-May. However, the forecast clears as Monday evening approaches and for the rest of the week, rain doesn’t seem likely.

The regional needs to be finished by Thursday (currently set for an if-necessary game if two teams with one loss remain after Wednesday) in a double-elimination format.

Schedule updates today in the event of weather will be at the LSUSathletics.com website, at the X account @LSUSathletics, or on the LSU Shreveport Athletics Facebook page.

The local winner advances with seven other regional champions to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, beginning May 22.

LSUS (41-12) has won seven straight and is ranked 12th in the final NAIA regular-season top 25 poll. Mid-America Christian is in the poll at No. 18.
