Centenary competitors collect honors; lacrosse readies for home finale

Fourteen Centenary gymnasts have been named 2026 Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championships Scholar-Athletes and 2026 Midwest Independent Conference Scholar-Athletes.

These outstanding student-athletes achieved a 3.25 GPA or better in the fall semester for the MIC honors and hold either a cumulative 3.3 GPA or fall semester GPA of 3.3 for the WCGNIC honors. Seven Ladies had 4.0 GPAs in the fall semester.

The 14 Ladies recognized as WCGNIC Scholar-Athletes are sophomore Peyton Burford, junior Hayden Cagle, sophomore Skyla Cruz, freshman Leila Dunlavy, sophomore Molly English, senior Claire Flores, sophomore Chloe Gilbert;

Sophomore Anna Ichiba, sophomore Olivia Montgomery, junior Brooke Murdock, freshman Riley Navarro, freshman Mallory Stephens, senior Olivia Stratmann and freshman Nyah Washington.

SWIMMING:  One Gent, senior Daniel Lewis, and a pair of Ladies – junior Reece Esser and junior Cicely Jackson, were chosen to the 2025-26 Academic All-District® Swimming & Diving Team by the College Sports Communicators. 

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

LACROSSE: The Gents (10-2) host Rhodes College on Saturday at 3 in their final home game of the season at Atkins Field. Centenary, 5-1 at home this season, was last in action on March 21 with an 18-10 win over Hanover College. Rhodes is 7-5 on the season. 

TRACK & FIELD: The Centenary thinclads completed competed in the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational last weekend, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Sophomore Gabrielle Malagarie finished 16th in the high jump (4-10.25) and sophomore Grayson Shugart was 20th in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1:03.09.  Malagarie also finished 22nd in the long jump (14-2.25).

Sophomore Dwayne Mills Jr. finished 22nd in the 100-meter run (10.94) and sophomore Cameron Hobley was 41st with a personal-best 11.31.

Freshman Zack Wroten was 36th in the 400-meter run (51.05), junior Bryan Washington was 38th with a season-best 52.14, and sophomore Clayton Hancock finished 42nd (52.45).

Freshman Ian Hunter ran a personal-best time of 4:46.85 in the 1500-meter run and freshman Michael Cunningham threw a 143-6 in the discus.

Mills Jr. also finished 21st in the long jump (19-8.00) and sophomore Chaz Smith was 25th (17-1.25).

The Ladies and Gents will compete in the Bryan Phillips Invitational on Saturday in Searcy, Ark.
