Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office warns residents of reported lawncare scam targeting homeowners

Sheriff Julian Whittington and the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office are urging residents to be cautious when hiring lawncare or landscaping services following reports of a potential scam targeting homeowners.

According to investigators, a lawncare service has been contacting residents and offering to install pine straw in flowerbeds at a set price per bale. After completing the work, the service allegedly claims that significantly more material was used than initially discussed, resulting in unexpectedly high bills—sometimes totaling several thousand dollars.

In some cases, residents reported feeling pressured to pay the inflated charges, even when they believed the amount of materials used did not match the cost being demanded.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging homeowners to take several precautions when hiring contractors, including obtaining a written estimate before work begins, confirming the total expected cost upfront, and refusing to pay unexpected or disputed charges without clarification.

Residents who believe they may have been victims of fraud or who have experienced threatening or suspicious behavior related to such services are encouraged to contact the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-2203.

Officials say staying informed and asking clear questions before agreeing to services can help protect residents from potential scams.
