Caddo Parish prosecutors seek death penalty in killing of Vivian police officer

Prosecutors with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office have announced they will seek the death penalty against the man accused of killing a police officer in Vivian late last year.

James E. Stewart Sr., district attorney for Caddo Parish, said his office will pursue capital punishment in the case against Nicholas Edward Alexander, 58, of Vivian.

Alexander is accused of fatally shooting Marc Brock, a 25-year-old officer with the Vivian Police Department, during an incident on Nov. 14, 2025.

Authorities said Brock and another officer were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for cyberstalking when the shooting occurred. After the officers announced themselves and attempted entry, Alexander allegedly fired two shotgun blasts through the closed front door of the residence, striking Brock.

Brock later died from his injuries that night.

Alexander was indicted by a Caddo Parish grand jury on Feb. 10, 2026, on one count of first-degree murder along with three related misdemeanor charges.

On March 10, 2026, prosecutors formally filed notice of their intent to seek the death penalty in connection with the first-degree murder charge.

Under Louisiana law, the killing of a peace officer is punishable by life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, or by death if determined by a jury.

The case is filed under docket number 413238.
