A Caddo Parish jury on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, found Steven Rubey, 61, guilty of vehicular homicide in connection with a 2022 motorcycle crash that claimed the life of his wife in southwest Shreveport.

 

The three-man, three-woman jury in Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr.’s court deliberated approximately 45 minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict.

 

The conviction stems from a July 29, 2022, crash in the 7100 block of West 70th Street. First responders located Tammy Lynn Rubey, 52, lying in the roadway. She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. A forensic pathologist testified that she suffered extensive injuries, including multiple broken ribs and lacerations to her heart and lungs.

 

Steven Rubey, who was operating the motorcycle, survived the crash and was transported to the hospital. A forensic blood draw revealed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.13 — significantly above Louisiana’s legal limit of 0.08.

 

Evidence presented at trial included photographs showing the roadway was dry and free of defects or debris. Prosecutors argued that Rubey’s blood alcohol level contributed to the crash and his wife’s death. The jury agreed.

 

Rubey is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on March 4, 2026. He faces a prison term of at least five years and up to 30 years at hard labor.
