Defending Select Division I state champion Huntington and Captain Shreve came off first-round byes and cruised to second-round LHSAA girls basketball victories Monday night on their homecourts, but four other local teams were unable to pull upsets on the road.

Haughton and Parkway, who met last year in a Non-Select Division I semifinal at Marsh Madness, fell Monday in competitive contests.

Booker T. Washington and Plain Dealing couldn’t follow first-round road wins with more success, getting dominated by high seeds. BTW was routed at No. 1 Madison Prep in a Select Division II game while No. 3 Arcadia walloped Plain Dealing in a Non-Select Division IV matchup.

No.. 4 Huntington will play its state quarterfinal at home later this week, meeting 12th-seeded Alexandria Senior High, which scored a 58-52 upset at No. 5 Acadiana Monday night.

Eighth-seeded Shreve will travel to Metairie to face No. 1 John Curtis, who ripped Hammond 53-13.

The local teams could meet in a Select Division I semifinal next week in Hammond at Marsh Madness.
