The Bossier Arts Council announced on Feb. 12 that it has learned of a proposed ordinance by the Bossier City Council that would terminate the organization’s cooperative agreement with the city and require it to vacate the Old Municipal Building at 630 Barksdale Blvd.
The building, which the council has called home for 45 years, currently houses the nonprofit’s offices and programming space.
According to a public statement released by the organization, the proposed action comes amid recent findings by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor that the council has been noncompliant with financial reporting requirements for three consecutive years.
BAC leadership stated that its current staff of three members were previously unaware of the reporting issues but are working to address them with the assistance of a new accountant and board leadership. The organization acknowledged the city’s concerns but expressed hope that an agreement can be reached allowing it to remain at its longtime downtown location.
The proposed ordinance is scheduled for review at the Bossier City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. at Bossier City Council chambers, 620 Benton Road.
BAC officials are encouraging supporters and community members to attend the meeting and voice their support for the organization’s continued presence in what it describes as the heart of Bossier City.
