DALLAS – The beat went on for both league-leading LSU Shreveport basketball teams Thursday night at the University of North Texas-Dallas in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader.
After convincing road wins, the LSUS men maintained a three-game advantage in the RRAC race, and the women have a two-game advantage. The teams visit University of the Southwest Saturday.
Thursday night, the LSUS women picked up a 77-57 victory and improved to 20-2 overall, unbeaten in conference play at 16-0. UNT Dallas dropped to 8-11 on the season and 7-10 in conference action.
LSUS trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but responded in the second, taking a 35-26 lead into halftime. The Pilots took control in the third period, outscoring the Trailblazers 30-14 to build a 65-40 lead heading into the fourth.
Toni Coleman led the Pilots with a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. She also recorded five steals and four assists. Selma Markisic matched Coleman with 23 points while adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
In the men’s game, a strong defensive performance and efficient offensive outing put LSUS in command during an 87-55 romp.
LSUS rose to 19-4 overall, 16-1 in the RRAC while UNT Dallas dipped to 8-10 overall, 7-9 in conference action.
The Pilots shot 53.1 percent from the field (34-of-64) while holding the Trailblazers to just 24.7 percent (20-of-81). LSUS also controlled the paint, outscoring UNT Dallas 44-30 inside.
Hayden Brittingham’s 24 points, six blocks, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists spurred LSUS. He was active on both ends throughout the night, recording multiple early blocks that helped set the defensive tone.
Thaddeus Johnson contributed 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
