Remembering Esther Rose Tompkins

Esther Rose Tompkins, born April 9, 1937, passed away on February 2, 2026. Esther was born in Zwolle, Louisiana, to Frank and Ollie Knouse. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Frank. She received her education in northwestern Louisiana and became a registered nurse. Esther worked as a nurse at Willis-Knighton Hospital before retiring early to raise her children and devote herself to her family. She married Ralph Tompkins, and together they shared more than six decades of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

Esther is survived by her children: Lane Tompkins and his wife, Cathy, and their daughter, Emily; Charles Tompkins and his wife, Silvana, and their son, Nicholas; Ronald Tompkins and his wife, Rochelle, and their children, Ryan and Jordan.

Esther was known for her love of family activities, cooking, playing the piano, decorating, gardening, entertaining, and hosting gatherings. Many will remember her warm hospitality, generous spirit, and her talent as a wonderful cook. In her later years, Esther and Ralph spent time together in nursing facilities. After Ralph’s passing last February, Esther was cared for by many compassionate nurses and aides, with special appreciation to Philomeen Young for her devoted care over several years. Though her passing brings sadness, her family is comforted by cherished memories and by the hope of the promised resurrection, when Christ will return and grant eternal health and salvation. Thank you to all who remember Esther fondly.
