The Bossier Parish Community College basketball team went toe-to-toe with traditional Region XIV stalwart Blinn College Monday night in Brenham, Texas, but couldn’t sustain the performance for all 40 minutes.
Blinn started to pull away midway through the second half and dominated the closing minutes to post a 91-63 victory over the Cavaliers.
“We played really well in the first half against a really good Blinn team on the road, down 36-31 at halftime,” said first-year BPCC coach Jeff Moore. “At about the 12- minute mark in the second half Blinn pushed the lead to double digits by capitalizing on our turnovers by finishing with transition baskets. We never recovered after that.”
Tony Montgomery led the Cavaliers (8-12 overall, 2-10 in Region XIV) with 17 points, followed by 16 from Drew Cooper and 12 by Dustin Welch – all among the 11 freshmen on the BPCC roster.
Blinn (14-7, 8-5 after its third straight win) pulled away with a 55-point second half eruption.
“We look to put together two good 20-minute halves at home on Wednesday against Panola,” said Moore.
Tip time Wednesday at Billy Montgomery Gym is 7 o’clock. BPCC will stay home for a Saturday afternoon visit from Coastal Bend.
